From its foundation until the 12th century, Dubrovnik was part of the Byzantine Empire. After the war between the Hungarians and the Venetians over Zadar, the Venetians ceded Dubrovnik to Hungary in 1358. Dubrovniks duty was to pay Hungary an annual tribute (500 ducats) and to display its flag on festive days, but the king of Hungary did not interfere in their internal affairs, which gave the city complete independence.
The first thing that will impress you are the two kilometer long walls. The walls extend around the entire city. The walls are one of the most beautiful in Europe.
One of the legends about the Lovrijenac fortress says that at that place the people of Dubrovnik preempted Venice from building its own fortress that would threaten Dubrovnik.
Maybe this is your next destination to visit.
Dubrovnik / Croatia 📍🇭🇷 Our penultimate stop on our road trip through Croatia took us into Dubrovnik, where we spent a day exploring its old town and walls 🚶🏻♀️🚶🏼 We could see straight away why this has become such a well-known example of old, historic towns; with its narrow, winding streets and high walls steeped in history. What we weren’t quite expecting was how beautiful the access to the sea would be and we couldn’t resist taking a dip while we were there 🌊 Since leaving, we have also began watching Game of Thrones after our admiration for these Croatian cities (and now feeling slightly left out that we hadn’t watched it sooner 😂). 🚐 Parking around the city was either paid or difficult in our van, so we parked up the hill on the edge of the road and hiked 20 minutes down - @what3words bids.safety.writing / 📍 42.6451, 18.1111

The most photogenic place in Dubrovnik 📸 Dubrovnik is considered the pearl of the Adriatic and is truly a destination that is worth every visit. ☺️ There are always various happenings in Dubrovnik, which is why it is also interesting during autumn and winter. Here you can easily find a good shot and every corner carries with it a special charm. The old town is beautiful, and the narrow streets particularly delighted me, and you will certainly take magical photos there. 😍 Also, the walls of Dubrovnik are a very popular place for taking beautiful photos, as they offer a unique view of the sea. 🌊 Many thanks to @putuj.sa.ivanom and @rixospremiumdubrovnik for the perfect organization of the trip, for the great hospitality and for the wonderful company that I will remember for a long time. 💖

Looking for a cool destination? Do you want some history, some history off the grid? Then you need to check out Dubrovnik. This city in southern Croatia fronting the Adriatic Sea, is known for its distinctive old town and circled with massive stone walls completed in the 16th century. This church entrance is but a glimpse of what is available in the main square, all quite amazing! *** feel free to share ***
