Mauna Loa in Hawaii, the largest active volcano in the world has erupted after 38 years
The US Geological Survey announced today that the eruption of the Mauna Loa volcano in Hawaii, which is the largest active volcano in the world, began on Sunday evening.
"At this time, the lava flow is confined within the top of the volcano and does not threaten the settlements at the base," the statement said, according to Reuters.

Mauna Loa began erupting while we slept!! The eruption is currently confined to the summit and is not threatening any communities downslope but the folks on the Kona side are able to see it like the video below. Flights are being cancelled/delayed due to ash in the atmosphere. The last time there was an eruption at the summit was in 1984. Jason Momoas "Chief of War" resumes filming somewhere on the Big Island today.
