In particular, his second business, Blitz Distribution, did well because it not only distributed other brands of skateboards, but also sold Hawks own products. This diversification helped it weather the ups and downs of the industry better than a single-product company would have been able to do.
The key to Hawks success has been his ability to identify opportunities and seize them quickly. When he saw that there was a market for skateboarding videos, he started appearing in them. When he realized that he could sell his own products, he started his own distribution company. And when he saw that his companies could be more successful if they were part of larger organizations, he sold them to those organizations.

Little do those who insulted you realize that you would inspire a slew of kids to go buy a variflex skateboard and defy all of the norms just for a peaceful respite of what was expected of them. The trick had been attempted by other skaters before, but no-one had been able to land it until Hawk did so. Following his successful completion of the 900, Hawk went on to launch his own successful line of skateboarding video games. The first game in the series, Tony Hawks Pro Skater, was released in 1999 and was an instant hit with gamers. It spawned a number of sequels over the years, all of which were equally successful. In addition to his video games, Hawk has also released a line of successful skateboarding products, including decks, trucks, and wheels.
