Tony Hawk is one of the most successful skateboarders in history. He started skating at a young age and quickly began winning competitions.
Tony Hawk started skating at age 9 and quickly began impressing those around him with his skills. He started winning competitions soon after he turned professional at age 14. His natural talent and dedication to the sport led him to appear in magazines and skateboarding videos. In the 1980s, Tony Hawk won several competitions. These successes solidified his place as one of the greatest skateboarders of all time.
Tony Hawks first business ventures were in the skateboard industry. In 1992, he founded the skateboard company Birdhouse. The company was successful and in 1996, Hawk and Per Welinder sold the company to T&C Surf Designs. In 1999, Hawk started another skateboard company called Blitz Distribution. This company distributed other skateboard brands as well as selling Hawks own products. The company was successful and in 2007, Hawk sold the company to Dwindle Distribution.
Hawks businesses have been fairly successful. In particular, his second business, Blitz Distribution, did well because it not only distributed other brands of skateboards, but also sold Hawks own products. This diversification helped it weather the ups and downs of the industry better than a single-product company would have been able to do.
The key to Hawks success has been his ability to identify opportunities and seize them quickly. When he saw that there was a market for skateboarding videos, he started appearing in them. When he realized that he could sell his own products, he started his own distribution company. And when he saw that his companies could be more successful if they were part of larger organizations, he sold them to those organizations.
Hawk is a classic example of an entrepreneur who has been able to find success by spotting opportunities and taking advantage of them quickly. His story is an inspiration to anyone who is looking to start their own business.
His successes in the skateboarding world

Names & insults I’ve endured throughout my early life & skate career: dork, toothpick, walking death, starvation victim, skater fag, robot, cheater, bony cock (sick burn tho), sellout, washed up. Don’t let those who can’t - or won’t - live up to their potential define who you are or diminish your passions. Pictured here is a young kid full of anxiety finding freedom from getting “picked on” (aka bullied) on a plank of wood with four wheels. And he’s still doing it 44 years later

Little do those who insulted you realize that you would inspire a slew of kids to go buy a variflex skateboard and defy all of the norms just for a peaceful respite of what was expected of them. And you became a hero to all of them. Good on you Tony. Keep going. You will always be an inspiration to anyone not trying to live a “normal life”.

Local San Diego news came to my house in 1986 right after I graduated high school. I had just bought a new car (white civic wagon) to replace my dying ‘77 civic, and you can see both in the background. Still hyped on this jump ramp clinic; I would be ecstatic to make any one of these tricks right now… maybe it’s time to get that degree.
